Wild One Cake Smash in Elk Grove

Where It All Started

I first met Piper a little over a year ago, when she came in bundled up and wide-eyed for her very first Santa pictures. She was so small then, still figuring out the world around her.

Not long after, she and her mama came back for a Mommy & Me session, one of my favorite kinds of sessions to shoot, because there's nothing quite like capturing the way a mother looks at her child. You can't fake that kind of love in front of a camera. You don't have to.

And Now... She's ONE!

Fast forward a few months and Piper was back in my studio for her first birthday cake smash, and let me tell you, she did not disappoint. Icing in her hair, frosting on her fists, and the kind joy that only a one-year-old covered in cake can produce. It was messy. It was chaotic. It was perfect.

Getting to photograph a child three times in their first year of life is such a gift for a photographer. You start to notice the little things - how their laugh has changed, how much more hair they have, how they've gone from barely holding their head up to full-on toddling around the studio like they own the place.

The Part That Made This Session Extra Special

Here's the thing about this particular cake smash: it wasn't just a birthday celebration. Very soon, Piper's adoption will be finalized, and the woman who has been right there beside her for every single one of these sessions will officially, legally, forever be her momma.

I got emotional shooting this one, if I'm being honest. Because this wasn't just a first birthday. It was a family becoming permanent, right in front of my camera. Piper doesn't know it yet, but these photos will always mark the year everything became official - the year she turned one, and the year she became a daughter in every sense of the word.

Why I Love This Job

This is exactly why I love doing what I do. It's not just about pretty photos (although - have you seen this cake smash?! 🎂). It's about the story behind them. It's about getting invited back, session after session, and watching a family grow, change, and become exactly who they're meant to be.

Happy birthday, Piper. ❤️
