Personalized Engagement Session in Elk Grove
This engagement session was so much fun, and it was full of personality. Mykayla and Tyler brought so many pieces of themselves, and every one of them made it into the gallery.
They love swing dancing, so we danced. Under a big weeping willow by the water, with the golden light coming through the branches, we did a lift and a dip. I love when a couple moves like they actually do together, because it looks nothing like a stiff pose and everything like them.
They also love Harry Potter, and they got engaged at Universal Studios in front of Hogwarts. Of course the robes came out! Walking hand in hand across the grass in those robes was pure them.
Then there's their card game. We used the numbers on the cards to make a save the date photo, with the hand of cards held up and Mykayla's ring right there in the frame. It's such a clever way to tell people the news, and nobody else will have one like it.
And because we weren't done, we did a Superman and Clark Kent set. Tyler opened his button-up to show a Superman shirt underneath, and it was exactly the kind of playful moment I hope for.
Here's what I'd say to any couple planning an engagement session. If you can find little ways to make it yours, instead of trying to copy something you saw on Pinterest, it makes a real difference in how you'll feel about the photos now, and years down the road. These are the sessions I love, so much fun, so much personality, and so completely theirs.
Mykayla and Tyler, here's to a wedding that's every bit as much you as this session was. And if you're engaged and have something that's just yours, whether it's a movie, a game, a dance, or a favorite superhero, I'd love to hear about it. Say hello here and we'll plan something that's all you.
